Understanding the Different Types of Lab Use Test Chamber
Test chambers are specialized devices meant to produce manually controllable lighting, humidity and temperature conditions. They have applications in civil engineering, chemical and biological industries etc.
Different Types of labs need controlled environments to conduct different experiments. If these experiments are not conducted in a well-controlled environment, their results will be impacted by environmental and other variables. In order to ensure the sanctity of the test environment, different labs need to use specialized test chamber equipment which will keep various factors like air pressure, ambient temperature & humidity as well as light & background radiation in control. Let us look at some of the commonly used devices.
Carbonation chambers are specially used by civil engineers who want to check the strength and durability of various construction materials. The main activity with this device is to identify what will be the ideal humidity and temperature to store any special sample or artefact. The device is made by sandwich type construction of 304 stainless steel plates on the inside and powder coated mild steel on outside. It can be used for humidity parameters between 40 to 80% RH. Temperature can be set between 20 degrees to 60 degrees Celsius. Carbon dioxide can range between 0 to 5%.
Thermal Shock Chamber:
These devices are meant to test if the subject can withstand sudden thermal shock including sudden variation in the ambient temperature. Test objects are stored in the box and then exposed to severe shocks of temperature from high range to low range and the other way around. The common test subject for this device is electronic and electrical components. The test items can be placed in an inbuilt SS304 basket. This basket then moves around from hot to cold temperature areas of the equipment, exposing the item to sudden change of temperature that may be even as fast as just 10 seconds.
Plant Growth Chamber:
This is a specialized test chamber meant for use in Biology and Botany labs. It is meant to identify what can be the effect of man-made factors in growth of different plants. Users can define levels of illumination, humidity, air flow and temperature. The device is equipped with a CFC/HFC free cooling system for minimal ecological impact. Its interior is made of stainless steel and exterior is made of corrosion resistant materials like powder coated GI. They come with hermetically sealed pumps to ensure proper pressurization. These devices can also be used for mushroom growing purposes.
Cyclic Corrosion Chamber:
This type of chamber is also known as salt spray chamber. It is meant to check how much a given metal is resistant to rusting. Its common applications are in areas like testing the resistance of automobile paints, chemical coatings, and other corrosion protection pastes and paints used by car, electronics, aerospace, marine and military equipment manufacturers. Common test standards followed by the device include ASTM B117, Neutral Salt Solution, Seawater acidified test, DIN 50021 salt fog test and DIN 50015 standard climate condition tests.
